Abdennaceur Karoui says: why my name as author of this page was removed?
Abdennaceur Karoui says: Abdennaceur is the French version of Abdennasser, as written in English. The name is Arabic and is given to males. It is composed of a prefix and a real name. The prefix Abd is pronounced in Arabic as Abed, it means "man of”. The second portion is Nasser, which means, what could be the combination of "Benefactor, Helper, Supporter, Patron, Promoter,…", that is the one who would bring you to “jubilation, triumph, and glory,…”, that one is Allah (God, in the western culture). Nasser is one of the 99 names of Allah. Thus Abdennaceur (or Abdennasser), means “man of Allah, the benefactor”. Arabs and non-Arabs used names with “Abd” as a prefix to another name, in this case Nasser, to incarnate an expected good human behavior projected from the immense goodness of Allah. That projected goodness is sought to be the backbone of the personality of whom will be a good wellbeing and reflects the goodness in his name, in this case jubilation and triumph to the society. Parents named their children with Abd, as prefix, because they expected their baby to become a raw model. That is a great hope of the family, like any other family, to have a to-be-ideal family member and a socially well-sited person. Generally, that hope is fulfilled, since individuals named Abd*** do act morally well and do restrain themselves from extras and behaviors that are marginal to the society. Writing the name as Abdennasser would work in both English and French. Using Abdennaceur writing in anglophone countries may lead the individual bearing such name to inconvenience when someone calls him. English speakers say it as Abdennaker, which is so embarrassing for that individual, as the Arabic meaning is extremely negative. Abdennaker means in Arabic: Unsocial Man, or Man who does not recognize others’ good deeds,... Also, it cannot be associated to God’s names, as it was meant to be, initially. Associated to someone else, other than Allah, (in this case, the Naker) would make the individual slave of that man or woman. Slave to a human? that is unacceptable. Naming someone with just Nasser, or any of the other 98 names of Allah, has been a taboo since the dawn of the Arabo-Islamic culture. It is simply not allowed in that culture to call someone for instance, Nasser. The idea behind it is, we as human, we can never be equal or close to the immense goodness of Alalh, no matter how hard we try. We believe that we, as human, always do mistakes, and unfortunately, we rarely dare to correct them, for various reasons. Abd is a prefix to male names. For girls, there is different approaches for giviing good names to a new born girl. One approach is to name the girl with one of the names of the prophet’s wives, or to give an attribute, like Oum, which is extremely honorable as it gives the future young lady the ideal responsibility of a good mother,… Culturally oriented and meaningful names are integral to the Arabic culture. The old Arabic literature is full of examples, in particular poems. Names have then become a part of the expression and communication in the ancient Arabic culture. There is a whole literature called “El Hija” and “El Madah” that deals with that. But Islam, when arrived, has warned people from laughing at others’ names, or calling people with bad names, or mocking ridiculous attributes,… In a second phase, Islam has forbidden the extremely disgusting behavior that Arabs had with naming, and a Sourat has revealed that. Subsequently, well sounding names have then become desired,… names with Abd as prefix, and names extracted from the prophet wives’ names have flourished and provided a good brand for the individual and the family to which belongs the person. Last, the writing of Abdul Nasser, used in Pakistan and its neighboring countries, is totally wrong since Abdul does not exit in Arabic, the original language. However, writing the name in one word, Abdulnasser, could be acceptable in Pakistan, as they do not need to deal with the Arabic grammar, but it would keep the noble purpose of projecting Allah goodness on the individual. However, it would be awkward for Arabs, as it is not allowed by the Arabic grammar rules. You feel it, when you combine “ul” with “na”, it does not weld well, the result is not smooth, there is a spike in the phonetics, it is simply not allowed in Arabic grammar.
