Meaning of this name is unknown.

yasmiina chourfi says: The name Chorfi has also been spelled Cheurfi or Chourfi. The arabic version is only one spelling. In my family,my sister is Chorfi.my uncle and his children are Cheurfi. The different spellings were caused by the French colonisation in North Africa started registrating the so called indigenes.Being a Chorfi, cheurfi or Chourfi meant that you are a family member of the Cheurfas tribe.Cheurfas is the plural of Chorfi which is the singular masculin adjectif of Cheurfas. The cheurfas are said to be a muslim brotherhood (confrery in French)and nothing to do with current muslim brotherhood. They are supposed to have come to North Africa with the Arab conquests to spread the muslim religion. The name is mostly found in Morocca and Algeria. It should be nteresting to know that there is still a yearly gathering of the Cheurfas in a small town located in Eastern part of Algeria,Tamalous.A religious celebration takes place to honor the Cheurfas and the ancestors burried in that place. To my knowledge th cheurfis,Chorfis or Chourfis come from the same origin and are located in Setif,Batna and Skikda in Algeria.Although they are considered to have come to North Africa with the Arabs, hey must have integrated with the berbers. My one Ancestry DNA shows a 30 per cent Middle Eastern and 32 native North Africa !
