Meaning of this name is unknown.

Per Goverud says: This is the name of a farm in Norway. The farm is situated at a place with a lot of snow during Winter, and traditionally old farms were named according to their Natural surroundings adding the ending "-rud". since GOV is an old Word for "a heap of snow", it is likely that this is the original reason to Call this farm "Goverud". A more modern Version of the same name would have been "Fonnerud", this is immediately understood today - meaning "the farm where there are heaps of snow". This is my personal theory about the origins of my own surname, I have no scientific documentation other than that I remember in my childhood, the deepest snow was usually to be measured at Goverud or close by the farm.
Per Goverud says: Goverud Gov-e-rud "Gov" means "a pile of snow" resulting from windy conditions. The snow has blown into a pile or snow-dune like sand-dunes in the desert. YThe "rud" ending is an old way to say "settlement" or an area cleared and ready to build on. So in essence: Goverud means "a snowy place". Other norwegian word for the same could be: Fonnerud. Fonn or Gov is the same thing.
