Meaning of this name is unknown.
Dr Femi Adenekan says: I grew up to know that the meaning of Adenekan is “Next to be the King” literarily. “The name Adenekan can be broken down syllabically to Ade-ne-kan. “Ade” signifies the King’s crown, or King’s signage, whilst “ne” in Egba land (Abeoukuta) could be said to equate the modern Yoruba version of “na” which simply refers to the King’s crown as the subject matter. The last syllable “kan” means next in English translation. Therefore, one could conclude that the meaning of Adenekan literarily is “Next to be Crowned the King” However, following deeper etymological search and language analysis, Yoruba being a probable contraction of the biblical Jarubabel (Y-J linguistic substitution). The closet biblical name in the bible to Adenekan (which also itself has variation such as Adeniken, Adenikan etc) is written as Adonikam which means “The king has risen” in Hebrew Language. This may be controversial, but Youruba language has many similarities with the ancient Paleo-Hebrew language and could have been an offshoot of the ancient semitic language. Few examples are written below; Father= Baba in Yoruba, Aba in Hebrew Husband=Baále in Yoruba, Ba’al in Hebrew. Even in the name Adenekan, we could also see the similarities of the “King” being referenced! In all the different dialects of Yoruba language, root words over time morphed into different translations to befit people’s understanding. As we all know, the true meaning of words tend to vary when passed from one culture to the other over many years. You can draw your conclusions based on my treatise.
KOLA ADENEKAN MICHAEL says: Ade means a Crown and Nekan means found Adenekan means You have found a Crown
Kola Michael Adenekan says: from Abeokuta
Adenekan Adebayo says: Ade connotes the crown which symbolises royalty. Ekan is a deep Yoruba word for root. Adenekan is a shortend form of Ade(ni)ekan. Literarily the name suggests that 'the crown' or 'royalty' has roots. This was the answer i got from my father which was corroborated by a someone else (non-relative) i met about 13 years ago. I do not have a deep knowledge of the Yoruba Language although i speak it. Maybe someone who does could provide more clarity
