Meaning of this name is unknown.

Bertrand says: Aloph is a local french form of Elophe (also Eliphius, Eliphe, Alof). Saint Eliphius (4th century)was largely venerated in the North-East of France as St Elophe, was a martyre in Toul (France)and had his remains translated during the 10th century to Germany (Church St Martin in Köln). The most known Aloph in history was Aloph de Wignacourt, a Grand-Master of the Order of Malta, painted by Caravaggio. Meaning has never been really discovered, though several hagiographies derive it from the greek word for deer (elaphos). But it may also have derived from Adolphe. Mostly borne during the 16th, 17th and 19th centuries, this firstname is now quite "confidential" in France (only one living Aloph noticed in France to date).
