Meaning of this name is unknown.
Geir Anthonisen says: The surname Anthonisen means Anthony's son - or son of Anthony. All Scandinavian names that ends with -sen or -son refers to the bearer of the of the name as someones son. i.e Andersson = son of Anders. This way of giving a child a surname meant that each generation would have a different surname, depending on the firstname of the father. It is not common to change surnames in this manner in scandinavia anymore, so the surname that was in use in the generation that ended this tradition, has stuck with the family ever since. It was common to give the daughters similar surnames, but they ended with - datter/dotter. Which means daughter. If this system was in use today, my two daughters would be called Lone Geirsdotter and Stella Geirsdotter, and my three sons would be Max Geirsson, Isak Geirsson and Angus Geirsson. There is something Viking-ish about it:-)
Geir Anthonisen says: Anthonisen means "son of Anthony"
