Greg Bergford says: When my grandfather Albert and his brother came to the United States, they had to pick a last name and stop using the Norwegian tradition of adding 'son' to the father's first name to create a last name (John Dorson's son's last name would be Johnson). They picked Bergfjord because they were from a tiny village named Berg which was on a fjord in Norway. They soon Americanized it to Bergford.
