Meaning of this name is unknown.
Hetty Boswijk says: The name Boswijk was first formed in the Napoleonic times in the province of Groningen in Northern Holland. Napoleon determined that everyone should have a last name identifying their family. The forefather of the Boswijks worked land or a 'ward' on which there were woods. The Dutch word "Bos" means 'wood and the Dutch word "wijk" means 'ward'. The Dutch name Boswijk can therefore be translated into English as Woodward.
Victor Boswijk says: The origin of the name Boswijk lies in the early 19th century when Napoleon ordered that everyone needed to have(pick) a family name. My ancesters were at the time living in the north of Holland (Province Groningen). They made a living by cutting peat. This was transported along canals which were dig by hand. These canals had small branches, in Dutch called "wijk" (plural: wijken). As the family was living near a "wijk" and near a small wood which is called "bos" in Dutch, they chose the name "Boswijk".
