Meaning of this name is unknown.

Djamel Boumghar says: Born in 1955 in Draa El Mizan Algeria. Boumghar, Goumghar Amghar et maybe Boumgar are the same. All family members originated from DraaElMizan-Algeria. All these names are the approximate translation of the kabyle name "Ait' Wemghar" litteraly meaning "Those of the old man". There is a legend told for the origins of the family. An old man came from south-west of Africa to north of present Algeria, "during the times where lions existed in north-africa" and met with the daughter of a local witch. In Kabylie we have the image of a witch (teriel) a very agressive and dangerous woman but with knowledge and with very beautiful and gentle daughters. This first couple settled the family above DraaElMizan in Algeria. Probably now something like 10000 or more members. The genetical characteristics (verified with my kids) is that, because of this first old ancestor, all the babies never lose their first hairs, and the women are very independant (because of this witch ancestor)... Nice story but nothing really verified about the first ancestors but the location and origins are correct.
Ammar Boumghar says: This name is an algerian name from Great Kabylie Area. Tne name means belonging to the old man or lhe old's son.
