Meaning of this name is unknown.

Austin Branthoover says: I did a lot of research into my surname; mine, and other variations of it such as this one, seem to have originated in a place in Germany called “Hof” in the area of “Brand”. Though it’s hard to confirm, my hypothesis has always been that the first of my family would’ve stylized themselves as “(first name) of Brand-Hof”. And then just as every other surname, it was shortened to either simply remove the hyphen, ad an “-er”, or what have you.
