Meaning of this name is unknown.
Matt Connaire says: The name originates in Ireland and is very ancient. In Gaelic the name is O'Conaire. It seems to be from County Galway, Ireland, largely in Connemara and around Loughrea. There was an Irish High King way back called O'Conaire Mór or Big Connaire. During English subjugation of the Irish language, census takers bastardised the name into Connaire, Conroy and probably others like Kinnear and Connery. One famous author in the Irish language was Padraic O'Conaire (in English his name was Patrick Conroy). There is a staue of him in the museum in Galway, Ireland.
Matt Connaire says: Probably Dog/Hound Carer/Keeper/Trainer, from the Irish words: Con and Aire
