Meaning of this name is unknown.
Nick Denbow says: The family originated in South Hams in Devonshire, and spread to Cornwall and east of Exeter. Near Exeter airport there is a hamlet called Denbow, with Denbow Farm and Denbow House: several Denbows are in Faringdon Church. These days there are more Denbows in the USA than the UK, having left in the 1760s onwards? There is a knight in typical crusader pose in a church in Dorset, his family married into the Paulet family I think
JP Denbow says: Hinton St. George, Somerset Eng., was Denbow until (1400's) the plague killed male issue, (whence the Denbow knighthood and title became extinct)and the estate was acquired by Poulett family (via Elizabeth Denebaud) until sold in 1968. The name (Denbow, Denebaud) derived from French 'D'Annebault' (a town in Normandy) was taken by Eudo D'Annebault, across the channel some years following the Norman Invasion, he was granted land and title by William of Eu, (verify) who in turn was awarded Estate of Hinton St. George by Anglo-Saxon King (don't remember name). The coat of arms is found in some picture dictionaries under the definition for 'Issuant'. "From a chief blanc, a lion rampant issuant gules on a shield Azul." The title now extinct, however Sir Phillip Denebaud's 'crusader' tomb is in the chapel in Hinton town. The pub 'Lord Poutrell Arms' was very receptive to myself, an 'American' cousin.
