Meaning of this name is unknown.
Margaret Emdal says: The name Emdal is connected to a valley and a mountain in Stranda in the northwestern part of Norway. It derives from Embla (the Norse goddess). The river that runs through the valley has been called Embla since old times. The early version of the name, Embludale (Emblas valley), occurs in written sources from the 15th century, as the king sent out men to find out about the condition of his kingdom after the Black Death. A copy of this script is still said to exist in the Copenhagen archives. In the early 1900s the name Emdal was also pronounced Embedal by the locals.
