Meaning of this name is unknown.

Dirk Engelage says: Then name Engelage most likely stems from a street / region in Nordrhein-Westfalen in Germany. A farm was found there with the names of predecessors who lived there in the seventeenth / eighteenth century. As far as my information goes, three brothers went to the north of the Netherlands in the late eighteenth century as seasonal workers (hannekemaaiers). Two of those settled in the northeast of the Groningen province, while one of them went to the southeast of the Drente province. That family moved to Rotterdam around 1835 and shortly after emigrated to the United States of America. friendly greeting, Dirk Engelage
Dirk Engelage says: Forgot to mention the probable meaning. In German Enge Lage could mean poor or barren area or situation. Might be related to the poor soil condition.
Gerard Engelage says: Engelage farm is in the current Stemwede (near Twiehausen) in Germany and means: small plot of land, just enough for the farm. The land has now been sold to restore the house.
