Meaning of this name is unknown.
Søren Hedemand says: Origin late 17'th century in rural Denmark, meaning the man from the Heath
Søren Hedemand says: “The man on the heath” could be spelled in various ways: Hedeman, Hedemann, Hedemand etc. at that time, and was often used in conjunction with the traditional danish -son names that changed for each generation. In 1894 four brothers from the farm Kristinelund near Klejtrup in mid-Jutland applied for, and were granted, monopoly by the state for the spelling “Hedemand”. All Danes with this spelling are therefore descendants of these four brothers.
