Meaning of this name is unknown.

Mastej Miroslaw says: Mastej is the name of families in today's south east of Poland, first baptising noted some 300 hundreds years ago in churches there, in 19th C. Polad was partide and the region belonged to Austria, many Polse were forced to leave their homeland due to economy mainly, but some also due to politics (fighting against occupants: Austira, Russia, Germany). One of destinations was USA, mainly Chicago, Kalamazoo, Great Lakes. Therfore in US Mastej is considered as Austrian, which is totally wrong. You are all Poles, be proud of that. Visit your homeland. And last but not least... we are highlanders!!! Very tough people. Still many families in US are in contacts with grand-grand-grand-sons or daughters still staying here. Our name is a pure fantasy name, there is no origin (ethymologically) in Polish language,
