Elio PESSO says: The Ellis Island registry (available on the net) lists immigrants names with their country of origin. Most people listed with the Pesso surname came from Macedonia (Salonique being inhabited at the time by a Sepharade majority) and some from Piedmont (Alessandria). This makes me think that most of them originated from Portugal and, as many other Sepharades, emigrated to the Ottoman Empire through Italy (Leghorn and Piedmont). There are nowadays Jews in southern France with the Pesso surname.
