Klaus Mueller says: Der Name Plagge leitet sich von der Plaggenwirtschaft ab. Dies war eine Form der Landnutzung , die nur in Nordwestdeutschland und im östlichen Holland betrieben wurde. Es wurden Grasoden, die Plaggen, abgestochen, als Eintreu in die Tierställe gebracht und dann als Dünger für die Äcker genutzt. Das Plaggenstechen war eine sehr schwere und mühevolle Arbeit.
Monika Plagge says: Plagge leitet sich vom dem Beruf des Plaggenlegers ab. Dieser hat früher Grassoden abgestochen und diese sodann als Dacheindeckung verarbeitet.
Uwe Plagge says: Damit das Moor kultiviert werden konnte, musste es erst abgeplaggt werden. Aus diesen Plaggen (Gras u. Heidesoden) haben sich die ersten Siedler einfache Plaggenhütten gebaut.
