Since I was little my mother used to tell me this story about how our family first got to Brazil, where we live nowadays, the Roitburd's were a small family who lived in the Odessa province, former Russia, now belonging to Ukraine. It means red beard, an its most likely that it has become a surname for ginger beard on our ancestors. They were also jews, so they fled the country because of ww1 and persecution of jew people since it was already happening in east europe. They arrived in Brazil circa 1915, in a city called Santos, where they lived util the 60's. I still have my greatgreatgranparents imigration documents. Their names were Sura Osband Roitburd and Munha Roitburd, but since those name aren't normal in Brazil, imigration changed them to Sara and Mario Roitburd. I hope my little story has helped someone to know what our surname means, or give then a hint or hope to think what was ones story and how ones family ended up where ones live now
