Meaning of this name is unknown.

Svein Taraldstad says: My father Trygve and his brother Albert, who were baptized Gunderstuen took this new family name just before 2nd world war. The small place Gunderstuen in Biri was originally part of the farm Taraldsrud, and that was the reason for choosing Taraldstad. When Trygve came to Nord-Torpa and met my mother Aasta Elise Fossum, he worked one winter at the farm of her parents, and his salary was 170 acres of land. This beautiful, sunny place he named Taraldstad. However, he always used the nickname Typpaerfarmen. Today it's owned by my dear niece Anne Hilde T. and her love Marius Motroen. My dear niece Elin's name is now T. Nymoen. In the list below my brother Finn, my son Martin, my daughter in law Tone Berg T. Simens wife Ranveig Gjerdalen T. and five grand grand children of Aasta and Trygve are missing. Arild Johan T. who was the only grandchild of my uncle Albert T. died October 17th 2012, but he had a daughter Ann Magritt and a son Jan Are named Barseth Taraldstad. I have found two other places in Norway called Taraldstad, but no people outside our family. taraldst@online.no
