Meaning of this name is unknown.
Werner Tenge says: According to USA based Brad Tenge's genealogy research, the name originates from the district "Tengen" in a Swiss-German border region. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tengen,_Germany
WtG says: The European/USA surname "Tenge" stems from a small county in the border region between Germany and Switzerland called "Tengen". It has a rich history of provincial skirmishes, petty betrayal and post-crusade unhinged mercenary knights. There still exists a tower remains of a castle (Niederburg). After the knights that resided in this castle were hired in a failed coup attempt. they sold their priviliges to the rich commoners in the region, who then adopted the surname "Tengen" and "von Tengen¨. These later changed to "Tenge" in Holland and the Scandinavian states. A lot of the Scandinavian branch have migrated to the states during the 19th century, according to the geneology report of one of the USA descendants. The location can easily be found on GoogleMaps. So the first Tenge families weren unrelated, apart from there original county.
