Name: Winky
Gender: Unisex
Origin: Asia
Language: English
Thematic: Virtual Nicknames
Meaning: An orange-haired, crested, feathered creature with a wattle, which is amply betoothed, and sports large webbed feet. The creature is part bird, part mammal. Not unlike the Platypus, the Winky lays eggs, yet nurses its young. The range of the creature is worldwide. Diet: principally oranges, with other citrus fruits in lesser amounts. The Winky produces a mildly alcoholic beverage called 'boot grog' which is manufactured in boots from spittle and orange juice. Characteristic sounds include a bird-like chatter, and the creature will squawk loudly when agitated. It can defend itself by use of its thumbs, which are engaged in a piercing action, usually directed at the armpits of the intended victim.
Winkies are known to lurk in urban areas, roosting on apartment building rooftops, in rafters, in trees and in or on bridges. Considered a nuisance in some parts of the world, they are often baited with oranges and leather boots, but generally escape capture or death through flight.
