Meaning of this name is unknown.

Jochen Ebmeier says: The name Ebmeier comes from the little westfalian Town Enger (near Herford and Bielefeld) and means "the Meier of the plain"; plain in German is Ebene, in mediaeval German pronounced EBBene, so you should say EBBmeier, not Eebmeier. The meaning comes from the fact that the Ebmeierhof - a rural estate - in the west of Enger is sited on an high plain above the town on a place called Oldinghausen (that's just a name, not a settlement. Following to local tradition, the Ebmeiers have been war companions(Sattelmeier)of the Saxon duke Wittekind/Widukind who led the Saxonian uprising against Chralemagne, but who finally was forced to surrender. About some 80% of the Ebmeiers living in Germany today, are still living in the counties of Herford an Bielefeld. Until the Revolution of 1918, the Ebmeiers of the Ebmeierhof still bore the title of Royal Prussion Sattelmeier. The Sattelmeiers were big farmers who from the middle ages on were obliged to mount the saddle (or send one mounted soldier) and join their lord in case of war.
